Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking official commented the attack made him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
