This occasion provided a platform for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a clinical goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a second, scoring for the second consecutive succession.

Shelbourne were hanging on for dear life. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for two robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.

After the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring with his very first touch, but saw his effort blocked.

Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also blazed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
