Personal Trainer Course

Our Level 3 Personal Trainer course is your entry into the rewarding career of personal training. This nationally recognised qualification will provide you with all of the necessary knowledge, skills and tools to run your own successful business as a Personal Trainer.

Learn how to assess a client’s health and fitness levels using up-to-date testing techniques and equipment. Analyse a client’s current eating habits and provide scientifically backed nutritional advice. Plan and deliver one-to-one personal training sessions using advanced training methods, and much more!

Course Structure and Content

  • How Is The Course Delivered?

    Part-time/ blended learning option: Once you have booked your course you will plan your study with one of our support tutors, ensuring adequate time and preparation for your practical course days. Dates will be agreed for coursework deadlines and telephone appointments will be made to allow tutors to give you regular feedback on the work that you submit and support you with your learning through one-to-one revision sessions.

    Once you have completed your home study you will attend the practical days at your choice of Focus Training centre. These fun and challenging days will allow you to practice your teaching skills using the latest equipment, whilst receiving support and guidance from our expert tutors.

    Full-time learning option: You will attend 16 days (Monday-Thursday) over 4 weeks, full-time (9am-5pm). This will provide support for completion of your worksheet units, case studies and theoretical and practical assessments.

     

     

  • What Course Materials Will I Receive?

    You’ll be able to access all the learning materials, including digital manuals, for this course via our unique online learning portal, a virtual classroom which guides you, section by section, through your course. All the facts and information you require are clearly presented to make learning as easy and enjoyable as possible, there’s even a quiz at the end of each section to test yourself. You will also receive a hard copy of the manual.

  • How Do I Submit My Course Work?

    You need to submit your home-study units either online through interactive questioning or you could choose to complete it hand written. If you have any special learning needs please do not hesitate to discuss them with our advisers, we will do as much as is practicable to assist.

     

  • What Does The Personal Trainer Course Cover?

    Throughout these course, you will study a variety of topics that will teach you more about how to be a great personal trainer – such as:

    • Advanced anatomy and physiology
    • Advanced cardiovascular training methods
    • Advanced resistance training methods
    • Movement screening – postural assessment and overhead squat assessment
    • SMART goal setting
    • Progressive exercise programming
    • Teaching exercise outdoors
    • Olympic lifting techniques
    • Plyometric and motor skill development
    • Functional core stability training
    • PNF stretching
    • Nutritional basis of healthy eating
    • Analysis of food labels
    • Eating for energy
    • Analysis of food diaries
    • Passive fitness assessments including blood pressure testing
    • Active fitness assessments including movement screening and endurance assessment
  • How Will I Be Assessed?

    Throughout the course, you will be assessed on a range of areas to ensure you have both the knowledge and tools to create tailored and engaging fitness plans to a variety of clients. Assessment includes:

    • Practical observation to demonstrate your ability to deliver personal training sessions
    • A case study to outline your knowledge of programming personal training sessions and nutritional advice
    • A multiple choice theory exam covering anatomy and physiology
    • A multiple choice exam focussed on the principles of nutrition

  • How Do I Become A Personal Trainer?

    The first thing you need is a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification. If you already have one of these then great, you’re ready to jump straight into the Level 3 Personal Trainer course, if not don’t worry, we can bolt this on at the beginning.

    Whether you are looking to set up your own business as a Personal Trainer, or work freelance within a gym setting, you will need a qualification that is accredited through an Awarding Organisation. Active IQ award our personal training qualifications, they are the leading awarding organisation within the active leisure sector, and they ensure we meet high standards of delivery and assessment.

  • What Certificate Will I Receive On Completion Of My Personal Trainer Course?

    On completion of the course you will receive an Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training.

  • Is the Personal Trainer Course Recognised By REPs?

    Yes! You will receive 20 REPs points on completion of the Level 3 Personal

    Trainer course. REPs stands for the Register of Exercise Professionals, which provides a system of regulation for instructors and trainers to ensure that they meet the health and fitness industry’s agreed National Occupational Standards. Entry onto REPs as a Level 3 Personal Trainer can help you attract clients through their website and gain affordable insurance.

  • Is Funding Available?

    Yes, this course qualifies for 19+ Learning Loans and if you are eligible, you can secure your place on the course with a £200 deposit, which we’ll refund when you complete the course within 12 months.

  • What Is A 19+ Learning Loan?

    If you are aged 19 years or over you are likely to be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan which you can apply for to fund this course.

  • What Other Payment Options Do You Offer?

    If you are not eligible for a 19+ Learning Loan there are several ways to pay. If you pay in full before you start your course you will receive a discount on the course price. Alternatively, there are a couple of ways in which you can spread the cost of your course.

    With our ‘Interest Free’ option, the price of the course is simply spread over several monthly instalments which you pay by direct debit. There’s no downside and it’s very easy to set up.

    If you would like to reduce your monthly outgoings even further, you can opt to use our Flexible Finance scheme which allows you to spread the payments over a longer period.

     

  • How Long Will It Take Me To Complete The Personal Trainer Course?

    Part-time learning option: Minimum of 16 weeks (22 weeks incl. L2 Gym), although most learners take 6-9 months. This is a combination of home study and 8 days attendance (11 incl. L2 Gym), which are spread over 2 and 3 day courses.

    Full-time learning option: 4 weeks (5 weeks incl. L2 Gym). This involves 4 weeks (Mon-Thu) of full-time attendance (5 weeks incl. L2 Gym).
