19 year old Sasha Cadman went to college to study English, philosophy and psychology. Like many teenagers she really didn’t know what she wanted to do following school so she decided to give college a go. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before she realised that college wasn’t for her and she had to do something about it.
“I made the decision to leave my college course after one year. It just wasn’t for me and even though I knew I was missing out on getting my qualifications and I had nothing else lined up at that point, I just knew that I had to make the break” she explained.
Since then Sasha has been working in sales and spending as much of her spare time feeding her passion for working out in the gym.
“A few years ago I was quite unfit really, my family have always been keen walkers but I just felt I wanted to tone up and stay healthy. Three years ago I joined the gym at Horwich Leisure Centre and after my induction, started out with a whole body approach to help me to get to know the equipment. I soon got hooked, working out three to five nights a week. I became very interested in toning different parts of my body and was reading up to get the knowledge I needed.”
Sasha realised that fitness was an area that she was really interested in and that she would like to know more about:
“It was when my Mum and Dad started asking me for fitness advice that I suddenly realised how into it I really was. That’s when I decided to do it as a career and get myself the right qualifications”
After asking around and doing her homework Sasha was recommended to Focus Training, a nationwide company which delivers professional fitness training qualifications throughout the UK.
“I signed up for the Level 2 Fitness Instructor course. It was quite tough doing it at the same time as working full time but I really enjoyed it and found it very useful. What’s nice is that you have a tutor that you can ring up for support. I even arranged for my tutor to give me a quiz over the phone just to keep me on my toes.”
As part of the course Sasha attended a 2 day workshop at the Trafford Centre in Manchester.
“The workshop was fantastic, at the end of the first day I was really buzzing with enthusiasm. There were about 25 students in the class but the tutors made sure that everyone got the attention that they needed. It was brilliant.”
