Our team are passionate about supporting our students to become qualified Fitness Professionals. We’re fanatic about fitness, developing those who strive for career success in the leisure sector, and shaping the leaders of the future in Health and Well-being! We’re also a nice bunch too!
So we thought we’d take you behind the scenes to meet the team.
This week, it’s…
Carl Calvert – Course Tutor – “The Ex Pro Footballer”
Carl has been a full time PE Teacher since 1994. Prior to his career with Focus, he was a Professional Footballer from 1986-89 and played football in New Zealand between 1989-90!
Carl takes personal responsibility that every student that crosses his path is given the best opportunity of passing their course whilst helping them to understand everything in a simplistic manner. A guy that always goes the extra mile, Carl ensures that every course meets the needs of both the students and Focus Training.
Having hung up his football boots, Carl likes to watch his mighty Leeds United when he can. Having recently gotten into cross fit training, he’s always looking to explore other options for training now that he’s off the field.
We asked Carl…
Interesting Fact About You…
When playing football I managed to play on about a third of all professional stadiums. I played against many top professionals including Paul Gascoigne, Gary Pallister, Gary Speed, David Batty, Chris Waddle and many others including Sky Sports Don Goodman.
What three things can you not live without?
Television – I couldn’t possibly miss programmes such as Dragon’s Den, The Apprentice, Facejacker, Match of the Day etc.
Mobile Phone – How did the world manage before mobile phones!!.
Elland Road – The theatre of dreams, the most passionate fans in the country, home of the mighty whites and errrrm Ken Bates…..
How Would Your Friends Describe You?
I asked them. This is what they said…
“You are the most loyal friend who is generous to a fault. You have a friendly manner and make everyone feel part of the team. Dependable and trustworthy through thick and thin”……well it was something like that but most of their replies were unprintable……?
Why do you love your job?
It is always a pleasure to meet new people and help them onward in their search for a new career/employment. It is good to work for a company that cares so much about its customers unlike all the other companies in various industries who seem more useless/clueless than ever these days.
…Spoken with passion!
