Here at Focus Training, we love getting to know our students and watching them develop into leading fitness professionals.
So, it’s always great to hear all about how they’ve progressed in their fitness careers since becoming qualified with us.
We caught up with Tamas Munkacsi, a Personal Trainer with Pure Gym at Manchester Exchange Quay.
Tamas, like many of our students, has successfully completed more than one professional fitness course with us, and plans to develop his skills further, in order to expand his knowledge and career opportunities as a successful Personal Trainer.
Originally born in Hungary, Tamas comes from a family with a passion for sport. So he’s naturally grown up surrounded by a variety of sports activities and an interest in fitness. He told our team that his childhood instilled some of the most important life lessons he uses as a professional Personal Trainer today…
“I loved sport as a kid and was particularly motivated once I got into the competitive side. Sports such as football, wrestling and combat sports require determination, discipline and commitment if you are going to succeed and reach your goals. That grounding stuck with me and I try to apply the same approach to every challenge I take on.”
As a youngster Tamas showed great skills with boxing. He joined his first club at the age of 17 and went on to enjoy over ten years as an amateur and semi-pro boxer. During this time, he notched up appearances in many national and regional finals and in 2010, became the Budapest Cup Champion.
When the time came to consider his future career path, for Tamas, his ambitions were clear. Keen to establish himself in the dynamic fitness industry, he became a qualified ABA Boxing Coach.
In 2008 he decided to broaden his horizons as a coach, taking his skills and positive mental attitude to a wider audience. That’s where we came along! Tamas found out about our fitness courses by chance whilst surfing the net…
“I needed a training provider that would allow me the flexibility to complete my course at my pace. In my case that didn’t mean slowly but just so I could fit it around my existing job and social commitments. Focus Training offered exactly the course and support that I needed and I have never looked back.”
Having completed both his Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Master Personal Trainer qualifications, Tamas is now planning to complete our Strength and Conditioning Coach course to add a whole host of specialist skills to his already impressive resume.
Tamas tells us he was initially concerned about the course materials. With English not being his first language, he wondered whether the materials and on-line portal would be clear enough for him to comprehend.
“All the resources are great, they are very clear, easy to read, simple to complete, and for anything that I couldn’t grasp straight away, my tutor was on hand to help. That’s where I can say Focus Training really surprised me, I wasn’t expecting the tutors to be so supportive, they are always willing to help right away, as soon as you need them. I really highly recommend them!”
Tamas loves his work as a Personal Trainer. He feels grateful having had the opportunity to turn his passion for sport into a career that will help other people to achieve their goals. Whether he’s working to improve their performance, assisting gym newcomers or established professional athletes, he’s found his calling and shows no signs of slowing down!
“I strongly believe in actions (make it happen!), determination (how bad you want it!), and discipline (sticking to your goal!).”
So, what’s the next step? Tamas has ambitions to open up his own gym, specialising in boxing and high performance training. With the level of drive and enthusiasm he has demonstrated so far, we can’t see anything standing in his way.
