Always choose a course that leads to an awarding body qualification specifically in the area of health and fitness related qualifications that are government approved.
Focus Training use YMCA Awards and Active IQ as their awarding bodies as they offer a full range of qualifications to enable progressive learning and career development. All our qualifications have industry wide respect amongst employers and fitness professionals.
We deliver three levels of qualification in the health and fitness industry.
Level 2 Fitness Instructor – This is the course needed for entry into employment in the health and fitness industry. The two main Level 2 courses are Gym and Exercise to Music. Other disciplines include Aqua, Step, Circuits, Studio Cycling and Instructing Health Related Exercise to Children. It is the equivalent of GCSE Grades A-C or an NVQ Level 2
Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructor – The Personal Trainer Diploma is a level 3 qualification, it is at an equivalent level to A levels or an NVQ Level 3.
Level 4 Specialist – The most advanced qualification available. Students must have completed the GP Exercise Referral course to be eligible to enrol.
All Focus Training qualifications give full entry to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) and our series of PURE workshops give Continuing Professional Development points to qualified instructors.
The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) was set up by the industry to regulate exercise and fitness instructors and trainers by recognising qualifications allowing entry to the register at different levels. It allows employers to check that any potential employee has the required qualifications for employment in the industry. All fitness professionals on the REPs must complete more training to maintain their status on the register by gaining continuing professional development (CPD) points. This ensures that their knowledge is valid and current.
Most of our courses require a period of tutor-supported home study before you attend workshops and/or a practical assessment day at one of our venues. The time it takes to complete a courses depends on a number of factors, for example, your previous knowledge, experience and the particular course on which you are enrolled. However, all courses can be completed between 4 weeks and 6 months.

Focus Training recognise that people who are training whilst in employment or training for a career move need the flexibility to learn around full-width their busy schedules. We use a mixture of distance learning and course attendance. Distance learning is an excellent form of learning for people to enable them to study around full-width their day to day life at a pace that suits them and also for people who cannot afford to take a lot of days away from work or home.
Focus Training provide a team of telephone support tutors who will guide you through the distance learning homework, providing technical support and advice via the telephone or the internet. Our tutors will agree set times for you to be contacted and we also run a help line for you if you get stuck!
Once the distance learning is complete, you will attend one of our national centres, where you will spend all your time on practical learning, using the latest equipment in the most up to date fitness centres, at locations throughout the UK.
We believe that our student support is second to none. Focus Training accepts that it is sometimes difficult for individuals to motivate themselves. Our unique approach to this encompasses regular tutor contact with our students to ensure that the work is completed to the required standard and the student feels supported and encouraged through the whole experience.
Our tutors are all experienced personal trainers themselves as well as being trained to provide the teaching support that you will need. We know that they will impress you with their knowledge and inspire you with their enthusiasm.
They pre-plan regular tuition sessions with you through your home study period and will also be available from 9am to 5pm on weekdays should you want to get in touch. In addition you can contact them using Skype, MSN or email.
We pride ourselves on going the extra mile to enable all students to achieve their best. Should you require additional learning support please talk to us about your requirements.
