Many fitness fanatics are plumping for poolside activity rather than sweat it out in the gym, and thanks to the increasing number of aqua aerobics classes available, aquacise shows no signs of going under water!
Far from laborious laps of the pool, water exercise involves a full body workout, incorporating both mainstream swimming techniques, stretch movements and balance.
Many people are taking to water workouts as part of a healthy exercise regime. Though for others, physical activity in water has numerous benefits the gym floor doesn’t provide.
Water is nearly 800 times denser than air, which means that every move you make creates a great resistance workout. And as the body becomes almost weightless in the water, this is a great option for those with weakness in the joints.
Others like to use aquacise as a muscle workout. Swimming in the backstroke technique can help improve shoulder stress, as well as posture and muscle sprains.
Pregnant women find they can still maintain their healthy regime with the additional weight of baby by working out in water. (If you have an interest in working with Mums-To-Be, you might enjoy our Ante and Post Natal Fitness Instructor course!)
Likewise, older adults prefer a spot of aquacise to take the pressure of their joints, and enjoy exercising at a slower pace than the gym floor. Something those studying our Older Adult Fitness Coach course will know all too well!
