Like the majority of the nation, we too felt poor Davina McCall’s pain last week as we watched her complete a gruesome challenge that took her from Edinburgh to London, by bike, foot and of course that dreaded open-water swim. But she wasn’t alone; she had her friends and family supporting her all the way, and her personal coach, Greg Whyte, who no doubt has a good set of fitness qualifications securely under his belt.
The 46 year old TV presenter isn’t shy of putting her body through gruelling challenges, but this 500 mile triathlon was her biggest yet. It consisted of a 14 hour bike ride which started at Edinburgh Castle, in the horrific storms that the UK received at the beginning of the year, a hike up a mountain, a 1 mile open-water swim in Lake Windermere, fell running and a marathon at the end taking her back home to London. The hardest part of this Sport Relief challenge was the open-water swim, in which Davina had to not only face her fears, but she also had to overcome hyperthermia and to be carried to safety and kept warm immediately after. But Davina never gave up and successfully completed the challenge.
Focus Training would like to say a huge well done to Davina McCall on completing this challenge and for raising over £2million for Sports Relief.
