Our Tutor course will qualify you to deliver lectures and workshops to learners enrolled on nationally accredited qualifications that you hold. Focus Training has created a unique offering for this course by delivering a full day of face-to-face learning and support prior to a second day including your practical observation.

Course Structure and Content

  • How is the Tutor course delivered?

    You will receive an Active IQ manual and Learner Achievement Portfolio, within which you will be required to complete some home study worksheets. You will attend a day of face-to-face support, which will provide you with a toolkit of teaching ideas and methods with which to deliver teaching and learning effectively. The support day will also provide you with the assessment guidelines for completing and passing the course. Approximately 2 months later, you will return for a second day with your completed portfolio and be observed delivering one teaching and learning session.

  • What does the Tutor course cover?

    Key principles of delivering teaching and learning, including:

    • The importance of lesson planning and how to design them
    • Ways to differentiate between learners
    • How to embed functional and employability skills into teaching and learning
    • A range of teaching methods and ideas with which to deliver lessons
  • How will I be assessed?

    A portfolio of evidence (written worksheets) and practical observation carrying out a teaching and learning session.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I become a Tutor?

    The first thing you need is a competency qualification, for example Level 2 Gym Instructor or Level 3 Personal Trainer. There are no other specific entry requirements for the Tutor course, other than you have to be over 19 years of age.

    If you are looking to work full-time in an educational setting or as a freelance tutor, you will need a qualification that is accredited through an Awarding Organisation. Active IQ award our Tutor qualifications, they are the leading Awarding Organisation within the active leisure sector, and they ensure we meet high standards of delivery and assessment.

    This course is the minimum requirement for tutors looking to be approved by awarding organisations in order to work for training providers or colleges.

  • What certificate will I receive on completion of my Tutor course?

    On completion of the course you will receive an Active IQ Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

  • Is the Tutor course recognised by REPs?

    Yes! You will receive 20 REPs points on completion of the Level 3 Tutor course. REPs stands for the Register of Exercise Professionals, which provides a system of regulation for instructors and trainers to ensure that they meet the health and fitness industry’s agreed National Occupational Standards.

  • How can I pay for the course?

    There are several ways to spread the cost of your course. We offer interest-free loans and also have a finance option if you want to reduce your monthly outgoings by paying over a longer period. If you prefer to pay up front you’ll receive a pay in full discount.

  • How long will it take me to complete the Tutor course?

    Minimum of 6-8 weeks, although most learners take 3-6 months. This is a combination of home study and 2 days attendance, which are spread approximately 2 months apart.
