Outdoor Fitness Coach Course
This qualification will arm you with ability to add variety and creativity to your fitness sessions, effectively utilising the outdoor environment, portable equipment and body weight, which will keep your clients coming back for more.

Is the OUTDOOR FITNESS COACH Course for me?
This exciting and innovative course will teach personal trainers a wide range of new skills. Prior to enrolling on this course, you will need a recognised Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing. Always make sure your qualification is accredited by an approved Awarding Organisation. YMCA Awards (formerly CYQ) approve our Outdoor Fitness course, they were the very first awarding organisation to accredit recognised qualifications in the Active Leisure sector and have vast amounts of experience in ensuring we deliver and assess our courses to the highest standards.
The following topics will be examined on an in-depth and comprehensive basis:
- Health & Safety outdoors
- How to utilise portable equipment outdoors’
- How to use outdoor space in an effective way
- How to utilise body weight exercises
- The benefits of outdoor exercise
- Special considerations when training outdoors
What can I expect to achieve from the OUTDOOR FITNESS COACH Course?
This course is delivered by distance learning (you will receive a YMCA Awards manual and workbook) and a 1 day workshop. You will be required to complete one unit of home study with our tutor support team on hand to give you help and advice.
From start to finish it is possible to complete this qualification in a minimum of 4 weeks depending on time that you have available to study and your previous experience. Most learners take between 6-10 weeks.
On completion, you will receive a certificate titled: YMCA Awards Level 3 Award in Instructing Outdoor Fitness and you will be accredited with 16 REPs points, which can be used as part of your Continuous Professional Development to satisfy the Register of Exercise Professionals requirements.
How will I be assessed?
You can submit your home-study unit either electronically or handwritten and sent via post. You will need to submit a video of an outdoor practical session for assessment. You will be assessed on a range of areas which include:
- One unit of home study coursework
- A practical assessment – submitted by video of an outdoor exercise session
What are the requirements to enrol on the OUTDOOR FITNESS COACH Course?
- Course participants must hold a Level 2 qualification before enrolling on this workshop.
- You must be 16 years or older.
