Personal Trainer Courses (Part-Time)

Looking to become a fully qualified Personal Trainer? You’ve come to the right place. Our courses set you up with all the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in your chosen career.

You can choose how you study, either part-time to fit around your existing commitments or full-time if you’ve got the time to commit. Either way, when you pass you’ll be rewarded with a high-quality qualification that shows you really know your stuff.

This is our level 3 course, so you’ll need a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification before you start. Already got one? Great, you’re good to go. Whatever your current knowledge and skill level, we’ll support you every step of the way.

Course Structure and Content

  • How Is The Course Delivered?

    Once you have booked your course you will plan your study with one of our telephone support tutors. They’ll work with you to make sure you’re ready for your practical course days. You’ll work together to agree your coursework deadlines and telephone appointments. They give you regular feedback on the work that you submit and support you with your learning through one-to-one revision sessions.

    Once you have completed your home study you will attend the practical days at your choice of venues. These fun and challenging days will allow you to practice your teaching skills using the latest equipment, whilst receiving support and guidance from our expert tutors.


  • What Course Materials Will I Receive?

    We’ll send you a coursebook and you’ll get access to our online portal. We take the curriculum and mix it up to provide a variety of learning methods to help you learn more efficiently, whilst enjoying every step of the way.

    Our Personal Trainer courses comprise of a mixture of home study, research, written coursework and practical sessions. This ensures we cover all of the necessary material, but in as fresh and engaging a way as possible!

  • How Do I Submit My Course Work?

    You can submit your home-study units either online through interactive questioning or you could choose to complete it handwritten. Whatever works for you.

    If you have any special learning needs please call us, we’ll work with you and l do as much as is practicable to assist.

  • What Do Personal Trainer Courses Cover?

    Our Personal Trainer Courses are designed to cover a variety of topics that will teach you more about how to be a great PT:

    • Advanced anatomy and physiology
    • Advanced cardiovascular training methods
    • Advanced resistance training methods
    • Movement screening – postural assessment and overhead squat assessment
    • SMART goal setting
    • Progressive exercise programming
    • Teaching exercise outdoors
    • Olympic lifting techniques
    • Plyometric and motor skill development
    • Functional core stability training
    • PNF stretching
    • Nutritional basis of healthy eating
    • Analysis of food labels
    • Eating for energy
    • Analysis of food diaries
    • Passive fitness assessments including blood pressure testing
    • Active fitness assessments including movement screening and endurance assessment


  • How Will I Be Assessed?

    As with all of our Personal Trainer Courses, you will be assessed on a range of areas to ensure you have both the knowledge and tools to create tailored and engaging fitness plans for a variety of clients. Assessment includes:

    • Practical observation to show your ability to deliver personal training sessions
    • A case study to outline your knowledge of programming personal training sessions and nutritional advice
    • A multiple choice theory exam covering anatomy and physiology
    • A multiple choice exam focussed on the principles of nutrition
  • Part 1 or 2 which do I book?

    Below you’ll see dates for part one and two you need to complete both dates but you need to book part one now. The price incudes the full course, both parts 1 and 2.

    You’ll be able to choose your dates and book your part 2 when you speak to your tutor.

  • How Do I Become a Personal Trainer?

    Our Personal Trainer Courses cover the essential knowledge and insights you won’t pick up on the gym floor. We delve deep into the workings of the human body, and how to get the very best out of it!

    Throughout your part-time Personal Trainer Course, you’ll cover how to provide savvy nutritional advice, how to devise, monitor and review client’s fitness plans, and how to create bespoke exercise sessions for a wide range of clients.

    As personal training clients are becoming more selective about the skill set of those they work with, there’s no better time to kit yourself out with a recognised qualification to kickstart your personal training career.

    The first thing you need is a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification. If you already have one of these then great, you’re ready to jump straight into the Level 3 Personal Trainer Course, if not don’t worry, you can do our Personal Training Diploma course instead it covers levels 2 and 3.


  • What Certificate Will I Receive On Completion Of My Personal Trainer Course?

    On completion of the course, you will receive an Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training. It’s industry recognised by REPs too. So you’ll not only finish the course with the skills and knowledge you need to succeed but also a high-quality qualification under your belt.

  • Tell Me More About My Personal Trainer Qualification

    Our certificates are recognised by REPS meaning that once qualified, you’ll have a high-quality qualification under your belt. To ensure your studies lead to a successful personal training career, we don’t just send you off into the world with a piece of paper.  Your certificate is earned, by you, fully backed by us and recognised professionally.

    You will receive 20 REPs points on completion of the Level 3 Personal Trainer Course. The Register of Exercise Professionals provides a system of regulation for instructors and trainers to ensure that they meet the health and fitness industry’s agreed National Occupational Standards. If you don’t cut it with them, you don’t cut it anywhere.

  • I'm Feeling The Pinch... Can You Help?

    Many of our students dream of taking their personal training career to the next level but don’t have the money to pay up front on the qualifications to get them there. So who are we to hold you back?

    This course qualifies for an Advanced Learner Loan so you could study for that fitness career, without worrying about the finances.


  • Are There Any Other Ways To Pay?

    Yes.  If a learner loan is not for you we can split the payments for you to make it more affordable. You can pay a £300 deposit and get learning, we’ll call you to arrange a payment schedule once you’ve booked.

    Or if you pay in full before you start and you’ll get a discount.

  • How Long Do Personal Trainer Courses Take To Complete?

    Our part-time course normally takes a minimum of 16 weeks to complete. Most people take around 6-9 months employing a combination of home study and 8 days attendance (which are spread over 2 and 3 day segments). If you have more time to dedicate to learning, or already have a lot of knowledge, you may be able to do it quicker, but your tutor will be able to offer advice once you start your course.
