Kids Fitness Instructor Course

With the rise on childhood obesity becoming epidemic, now, more than ever, there is a need for qualified instructors to deliver specialist exercise sessions to children. There can be few careers more rewarding than working with children – especially if you enrol on a Kids Fitness Instructor course.

This nationally accredited qualification will equip you with all of the skills and knowledge needed to deliver safe and effective fitness based activity to children of all ages, that are fun, varied with a clear focus on improving the health and fitness of the next generation.

Course Structure and Content

  • What learning materials will I receive for the Kids Fitness Instructor course?

    You will receive a hard copy manual containing all the facts and information you will need to refer to in order to complete the course.

    If this is your first level 2, you’ll be able to access the learning materials for this course in our ‘virtual classroom’, a unique online learning portal which will prepare you for your theory exams. All the facts and information you require are clearly presented to make learning as easy and enjoyable as possible, there’s even a quiz at the end of each section to test yourself.

  • What will I learn as a Kid's Fitness Instructor?

    The curriculum is varied, informative, and will provide you with the skills to begin a career in fitness.

    With an in-depth analysis and understanding of health and fitness, you will gain a wealth of knowledge regarding the following topics:

    • Planning and delivering fun and engaging exercise sessions for children
    • Components of fitness and physical activity designed with children in mind
    • Anatomy and physiology
    • Principles of exercise, fitness and health
    • Introduction to nutrition
    • From these units, you will acquire the skills to plan and evaluate fun exercise sessions for 5 – 16 year olds. In addition to these points, students will also gain a valuable introduction to customer service – with a particular focus on learning how to communicate with children.

    This is a challenging yet exciting role that plays a significant part in a child’s health. In terms of future job prospects, the issue of children’s fitness is becoming even more important – with schools and other health facilities now being urged to have more of a positive influence on diet and exercise regimes.

  • How is the Kids Fitness Instructor course delivered?

    You’ll receive a home study pack, and will be contacted by a tutor who will discuss a specific learning plan. After home study has been completed, there are three practical course days that teach you the physical skills that are vital for passing the assessment.

    Tutors will help you with feedback on your performance and how it can be improved.

    There are then ten weeks to submit a case study and video evidence to go towards the final assessment.

  • How will I be assessed on my Kids Fitness course?

    In order to gain the Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Children), students will be assessed on the following:

    • Two theory exams to assess your knowledge
    • Home study to allow time to digest and work on your own schedule
    • An exercise programme to test your planning and delivery skills
    • Practical assessment to ensure you’re ready to get out there to motivate children to get fit
  • How do I submit my Kids Fitness Instructor work?

    If this is your first Level 2 qualification, some of the work will be completed online through a range of interactive questions. The remainder will need to be completed hand written and posted back to Focus Training’s head office. Your video assessment can be submitted either via DVD, USB stick or via e-mail/ file sharing e.g. dropbox

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I become a Kids Fitness Instructor?

    You will need to make sure your qualification is a fully accredited Level 2 that is certificated by an Ofqual approved Awarding Organisation (AO). Active IQ accredit our Level 2 Kids Fitness qualification, assuring quality to the highest possible standards. Before working with children, whether it be in schools, local community centres, or setting up your own kids fitness business, you will need to ensure you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check (formerly CRB). This is a background safety check that is carried out to make sure you are not barred from working with children.

  • What can I expect to achieve from the Kids Fitness Instructor course?

    On completion of this course, you will receive an Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Children).

  • Is the Kids Fitness course recognised by REPs?

    Yes! REPs stands for the Register of Exercise Professionals, which is responsible for regulating fitness professionals operating within the industry to ensure they are working to the national occupational standards. Our Kids Fitness course will provide you with 20 REPs points and allow entry onto the register at level 2.

  • How can I pay for the Kids Fitness Instructor course?

    There are several ways to spread the cost of your Kids Fitness course. We offer interest-free loans alongside a small deposit and also have a finance option if you want to reduce your monthly outgoings by paying over a longer period. Alternatively, if you prefer to pay up front you’ll receive a pay in full discount.

  • How long will it take me to complete the Kids Fitness Instructor course?

    From start to finish it is possible to complete this qualification in 10 weeks depending on whether it is your first Level 2 qualification, in which case the minimum duration will be around 14 weeks.

  • What are the requirements for the Kids Fitness Instructor course?

    All students need to be aged 16 or over. No previous qualifications are required. Level 2 is considered the entry level into the fitness industry.
