Assessor Course

Course Structure and Content

  • How is the Assessor course delivered?

    You will receive an Active IQ manual and Learner Achievement Portfolio and be required to complete some home study worksheets. You will attend for a day of face-to-face tuition and support, covering the key principles and practices of assessment and providing you with the assessment guidelines for completing and passing the course. Approximately 2 months later, you will return for day two with your completed portfolio and be observed assessing a practical assessment.

  • What does the Assessor course cover?

    Key principles and practices of assessment, including:

    • Briefing learners on assessment guidelines
    • Carrying out an assessment
    • Writing feedback (open book assessment)
    • Delivering verbal feedback
    • Making assessment decisions
    • Assessing different types of evidence such as written, oral and practical observation
  • How will I be assessed?

    A portfolio of evidence (written worksheets) and practical observation carrying out an assessment.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I become an Assessor?

    You will need a competency qualification such as Level 2 Gym Instructor or Level 3 Personal trainer. There are no other specific entry requirements for the Assessor course, other than you have to be over 19 years of age.

    If you are looking to work full-time in an educational setting or as a freelance tutor/ assessor, you will need a qualification that is accredited through an Awarding Organisation. Active IQ award our Assessor qualifications, they are the leading awarding organisation within the active leisure sector, and they ensure we meet high standards of delivery and assessment.

    This course is the minimum requirement for assessors looking to be approved by Awarding Organisations in order to work for training providers or colleges.

  • What certificate will I receive on completion of my Assessor course?

    On completion of the course you will receive an Active IQ Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement.

  • Is the Assessor course recognised by REPs?

    Yes! You will receive 20 REPs points on completion of the Level 3 Assessor course. REPs stands for the Register of Exercise Professionals, which provides a system of regulation for instructors and trainers to ensure that they meet the health and fitness industry’s agreed National Occupational Standards.

  • How can I pay for the course?

    There are several ways to spread the cost of your course. We offer interest-free loans and also have a finance option if you want to reduce your monthly outgoings by paying over a longer period. If you prefer to pay up front you’ll receive a pay in full discount.

  • How long will it take me to complete the Assessor course?

    Minimum of 6-8 weeks, although most learners take 3-6 months. This is a combination of home study and 2 days attendance, which are spread approximately 2 months apart.
