So, how did you get into fitness?

First got into fitness from a very young age. I joined a local running club when I was 10 and used to compete in 100m sprint, 200m sprint and relay. I was and still am a very good sprinter.

What did you do before becoming a Personal Trainer?

Before I started Level 2&3 I was a stay at home Mum to three children.

Was there a ‘lightbulb’ moment when you realised a fitness career was for you?

My lightbulb moment was when I had my third child and I gained a lot of excess weight. Six stone to be precise. I went from dead on 8st to 13st 8lbs.

It took me a steady fours years to lose 4 stones and when I reached my target weight of 9st 8lb this is when I gained the confidence to learn and gain a career in the fitness industry.

What is your biggest inspiration?

The inspiration came from myself, to be honest purely from all the hard work, perseverance and patience I put myself through to lose 4 stone in weight.

Why did you choose to train with us?

I chose focus because after a lot of extensive research into which company would be the best to use Focus stood out for me. This is because of various reasons, one being the 30 years of successful Ofsted reports and successful experience they have to help people fulfil their ambitions.

They also offer an extreme amount of support in terms of your individual learning. For me, it was evident I was a better learner being in a classroom environment and this was observed by Clare Storer. The advice and support she gave me wouldn’t have come from any other person or company.

The whole team, in general, are very good at picking out strength and weaknesses and this for me is an invaluable skill on its own. It made my learning easier, more fun, and it helped me retain the motivation I needed when it was getting tough.

Did you use the 19+ Advanced Learner Loan?

Yes, I went through the 19+ scheme.

What was good about the course? Any best bits?

The best bits were meeting and receiving the best support from the Focus team.

Clare supported me, advised me and took on board my concerns and questions every step of my PT learning journey.

Meeting new people on the course who have similar interests to you is also one of the best parts and it was good to have other students to help and receive help from.

What have you been up to since training with us?

I am currently running small group sessions, running individual PT sessions and my sessions all take place in the great outdoors. I am also starting a new job on the GP referral scheme at a gym soon.

What are the best things about being a Personal Trainer?

Best things about being a PT are;

Watching people grow and develop into what they have been desiring

Meeting new people who want to train and willing to put in the effort

Being able to work outdoors and having hours to suit me.

What is your life like as a Personal Trainer?

My working week consists of meeting my first client which is usually 6.45am and my last client at 8 pm and in between those hours, I can manage to see individuals and hold group sessions. I also run a community session for the residents on my lane on one of those days, I hold short sessions for some members of GMP in their lunch hour.

I also have my free time between 2pm-5pm where I can write out programs, do my own training and catch up with clients via email or phone if they have any queries and also work on leads.

What is your client base like?

Clients are mostly ladies. Their ages range from 21 to anything between this and 40’s.

What services do you offer to clients?

Services offered include one to one PT sessions, two people in a PT session e.g; two friends who have similar goals. Group sessions of around 6 people and shorter group sessions which are based at peoples workplace where they are limited with time but can still achieve a good workout.

What advice would you give to aspiring fitness professionals?

The best advice I could give to anyone is, always offer free taster sessions to get yourself out there. Never be afraid to approach privately owned gyms and ask if you can offer a free trial of sessions at their gym as through experience this has gained me paid work. Advertise yourself professionally especially on social media and be realistic with what you’re advertising, when this is done right it lets you build your own fitness brand.

Any plans for the future?

My future plan is to eventually have my own gym unit where I can run sessions and have more people come and train and also have a separate “chill out” zone for meditation and healthy mental well being.

I would also like to run sports day charity events for hospices and help raise money for places like this through fun circuit session, back to school relay racing etc…. where you can come along have a good time and train  and then donate money to something so valuable to us all
