Tell us a little bit about what you were doing before taking our course. Were you employed in the fitness industry already or did you come to us from a completely different background?
I came to Focus Training from a completely different background – The NHS.

What was it that made you decide to take one of our courses?
I decided to do the course after struggling with my weight and fitness, having lost 6 stone I started training in the gym for my own personal goals. People started asking me for advice and they said I was inspiring to them, so I decided to do the qualification.

I chose to do the course with Focus Training because Focus was recommended to me by some of the instructors / PTs at my local gym.

Once the course was completed what have you used your new skills for? How has it impacted your life/employment?
The course has changed my life.

I am now building my PT business around my current job in the NHS.
I am currently doing weekly group training sessions for my clients and I have also, through these sessions, gained some PT clients. People are recommending me.

I never dreamed that my business would start to grow as fast as it as.
Helping people overcome the barriers I faced when starting to make my lifestyle change makes me feel proud every day. It is very satisfying helping people achieve their goals. As one of my clients said the other day. “Ruth I am buzzing after your sessions; I really enjoy them”. These kinds of comments mean everything and says it all!Total job satisfaction.

What are your future plans? Will you take any further courses? Do you have a business idea?
I may take on other courses. I would never say never! Maybe sports massage or level 4 in the future, at the moment I want to concentrate building my business.

If you had a piece of advice for a learner trying to decide whether they should take one of our courses what would it be?

I found the course very interesting. It is challenging, and I did it around my full-time day job.

Believe in yourself and work hard and you will be rewarded. Commitment, dedication and never giving up when the going gets tough is the key. If you want something badly enough you will keep going and stay focused.
