Fitness First asked a selection of its 170,000 members about their gym habits, to try to get to the bottom of why gym attendance tends to dip. Amongst many credible reasons for avoiding a workout, members came up with a surprising bundle of highly creative excuses for ditching the daily regime. Some of the best included, "My hamster died", "I didn't have my headphones with me" and "I needed to wash my hair". One member from the Bath health club even came up with; "my wife didn't want me getting any hotter before our holiday!" It seemed that the closer it got to the weekend, the more creative the excuses, as members concocted their biggest whoppers on a Friday.
