We’ve all experienced the burnout from working in a high-pressure environment, or the stress that can come from slogging away in a humdrum day job that doesn't get us springing out of bed. Sometimes, we just know when enough is enough and it's time to dust off that CV in a quest for something new.
If your love of fitness just won't quit, perhaps it's time to make that step towards a career as a fitness professional. If you’ve experienced any of the below then it’s probably time to get started on that shiny new career move, before the boredom burnout sets in.
You're A Monday Hater
Hey, we all
hate Monday mornings. Wrenched from our sleep to the shrieking of our alarm, cringing our way through the cold, long commute... not really anyone's idea of a good time after a weekend of socialising.
However, if you're feeling the Sunday night sickness that comes before your Monday morning slog, or are praying each week that you'll win the lottery just so you don’t ever have to go back to your job, then now is the time to look for something new. Or at least buy a lottery ticket. You have to play... not pray if you want to win.
Personal Trainers work Mondays too. Though getting up bright and early to hit the gym with clients, or manage your own working day beats that desk job hands down. Hello Monday!
You Regularly Throw Sickies
Go on, be honest. How many sickies have you thrown this year? Really, that many? If you’ve got a hangover, really want to enjoy the rare burst of sunshine or just can’t be bothered every now and again then that’s one thing (not that we’re condoning it, tut tut!). But if you’re calling in sick on a semi-regular basis just so you don't have to face work, then it’s time to start the search for your new career.
Working in a dynamic, fast-paced gym environment is not only great for a morale boost, but you'll spend your days doing what you love, whilst looking after yourself too. Those duvet days will soon start to disappear.
So you’ve been doing your current job for a few years now and feel like you could do it with your eyes shut. You've mastered typing with one hand and Whatsapping your friends to make plans for the weekend with the other. The job is too easy, you need a bigger challenge.
As a Personal Trainer, no two days are the same. You'll constantly be challenged by the art of running your own business, achieving your goals and those of your clients. It's fast-paced, so there's no time for boredom.
Your Boss Is A Monster
We’ve all had one. The monster boss. Whether they're making your life a misery through overloads of pressure, unrealistic targets or overlooking you for promotion, a bad boss can be a real nightmare.
Considering you spend more time with your colleagues than your own family, it's crucial that you have a strong and respectful working relationship with the boss. If it's just not happening, perhaps it's time to work for yourself?
As a self-employed Personal Trainer, you'll manage your own schedule, your own clients and your own earning potential. It's tough, there'll be days when you wish you had the stability of being employed. But you'll have the freedom to work your way, every day.
You're An Early Bird Or A Night Owl
Most Personal Trainers train their clients around work schedules. So, many of your clients will want to get their sessions in before they hit the office, or on their way home.
Clients that work full time will need to work with you during the “prime” training hours of 5 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. So, if you're not averse to waking up early or burning the midnight oil, Personal Training could be a great fit for you.
Personal Trainers who work full-time usually have a long break in the middle of the day where they enjoy time for themselves or get a little business admin out of the way. It's your day to plan just how it works for you.
You're The Social Circle Guru
If you're the type of person your friends go-to for fitness advice, diet tips or a little motivation, you'll want to rock that role model as a full-time career. Personal trainers lead by example, and so make great role models for clients ready to achieve their goals.
Once qualified, you'll put yourself into a position to become a fitness influencer. Whether you coach in the gym, online or through motivational social media campaigns, the stage is there for you to preach your passions.
