We have recently spoken to one of our students to help give you an idea of what it is like to learn with Focus and give you some inspiration to get into the industry. We spoke with Tara, who has in fact moved up from Nottingham to pursue a career in fitness. We met Tara on her Full-time Gym Instructor course to see what her experience with Focus has been like and to find out more about her pursuing a fitness career.
See what Tara had to say about our courses and see what has led to her pursuing a Personal Training career with us.
So, how did you get into fitness?
My sister passed away and she was into fitness, so I used running to cope with it and began to get into fitness more and the social side of things. After this, my Mum had an operation and she turned to me to help her get back fit. I was able to help her get back into fitness and I really enjoyed helping her grow and improve her health.
What did you do before looking to become a Personal Trainer?
Before looking into Fitness as a career, I was in school and had always had a fitness background, so I naturally began to look towards a career within fitness.
How have you found the move to Manchester?
I have really enjoyed it. I have only been here a week, but I am really liking the people and what Manchester has to offer.
Was there a ‘lightbulb’ moment when you realised a fitness career was for you?
I have always been into fitness, but when it came to helping my mum get back fit and healthy following her operation, this was when I really realised that a career in fitness was for me.
Why did you choose to train with us?
I visited Manchester for the first time only a few months ago, and I used a Pure gym day pass. I got speaking to a Personal Trainer there, and I started asking for advice on how to get qualifications and she said she used Focus Training. The very next day I got in touch and they were so helpful.
Did you use the 19+ Advanced Learner Loan?
What was good about the course? Any best bits?
The tutors are brilliant, they explain everything really well and they even give little funny tips on how to remember things. I have made some friends for life here and have only lived in Manchester a week before starting the course, so it gave me a very warm welcome.
What advice would you give to aspiring fitness professionals?
GO FOR IT! Don’t hold back and work hard for what you want. I’ve wanted to do this for years and my only regret is not going for it sooner. If you’re passionate, you’ll be learning about something you’re passionate about with some amazing people with the same dream.
Any plans for the future?
I Definitely want to start in a gym where I can build trust between myself and clients and prove what I am capable of.
