Well, it's here again and all too soon. All that hard work can disappear all too easily.
With Christmas parties about to start, the other numerous social occasions that you have to go to and all that excess between Christmas and New Year it can all be a bit daunting to those of us still looking to keep in relatively good shape.
So what can be done? Well, if you’ve managed to get your eating habits right, you should be eating 6-7 times a day. The average rule of thumb being that you can have 10% cheat meals without having to worry too much, that means over an average week you would eat 49 times so 5 of those meals can be 'cheat meals'. (This is the best way to look at it)
The next thing is to realise that the shops will only be shut for one day so there’s no need to go mad. Be aware of what’s going in the trolley, turkey is the best meat anyway as its virtually fat-free, cook the stuffing separate not in it. Trim off all the fat from the bacon and cook the bacon and sausage rolls on a rack so it doesn’t bathe in its own fat. Choose sweet potato over normal, plenty of vegetables and you can cook a very healthy and nutritious dinner. Have a smaller portion of Christmas Pud, and only make a small amount of sauce instead of a lake. Try not to have snacks everywhere with crisps and chocolate in, instead have nuts that need to be shelled prior to eating; the effort involved will reduce the number eaten.
Try to keep your exercise levels up, 10 days sitting in front of the TV won’t do you any good, so try and get back into your normal exercise routine ASAP. Also remember that it only happens once a year so the rest will do you good and it is OK to have a little bit of something you fancy, just in smaller portions.
