A Guide to Achieving Your Goals

All personal trainers will agree that setting goals is one of the most effective ways to achieve results, as well as all the hard work that has to be put in. However, any goals that you have set must be because you want to achieve them and that you’re positive about doing it; otherwise, it may become more of a challenge. One of the key aspects of Focus Training’s personal training courses is that we teach you how to work with your clients in setting goals and how to achieve personal training goals successfully. Personal Trainer expert Scott Laider recently published an article in The Telegraph explaining why so many of us fail to complete a New Year’s resolution and how it can be obtained for next year. Come January, we’ve all had resolutions set that we will either become healthier, drink less, exercise more and generally become a fitter and slimmer person, but according to a recent study, around 88% of people fail, leaving just 22% who will go on to complete their New Year goal. Scott Laider explained that it is a difficult process to change your habits overnight and resolutions are generally made as a rash decision; which is generally after the over-indulgence during the festive holidays. He goes on to suggest that the goals set in January are generally negative and include resolutions such as “I’ll cut down on chocolate” or “I will lose weight in January”, which in turn, does your subconscious mind no favours. Laider advises that any health and fitness-related goals that are made in the New Year should something along the lines of “I will eat a varied and healthy diet until February” or, “I will lose ‘x’ amount of weight by March”.
