14% Take No Responsibility For Their Own Health.

It seems that although we know how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, for one in seven of us, it's just not our responsibility!

A recent poll has revealed that one in seven people feel they have little or no responsibility for their own health and well-being, with more than a quarter claiming that food and drinks companies are to blame.

YouGov asked 2000 people who were responsible for their health and well-being. 39% felt their GP was responsible, 19% said the Government and 28% answered that it was down to the food and drinks companies we buy from.

A surprising 14% said they took little or no responsibility for their own health and well-being.

When asked about their diet and lifestyle, the majority knew the importance of getting at least five portions of fruit and veg each day. However, less than 30% actually did so.

Whilst it's easy to argue that the food companies should be responsible for providing us with nutritious, healthy options, it's up to us what we choose to put into our bodies. It's also important to remember that the rise in obesity and obesity-related illnesses isn't down to diet alone. Over-eating, lack of exercise and reliance on using our cars to get around are also contributing factors in the battle of the bulge. Obesity in turn can lead to a number of illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, stroke and osteoarthritis. So the impact obesity has on our future health is certainly something to be taken seriously.

So, what needs to be done to change this perception that our own health is not our responsibility?
